A ÚLTIMA BOBINA DE FILME SUPER 8 QUE VOCÊ FILMOU

“how stories are recorded, in what kind of physical media, what kind of processes and durations…”

Wolfgang Ernst

“Personal experiences – revised and in other ways redrawn – become a lens with which to reread and rewrite the cultural stories into which we are born.”

Gloria Anzaldúa

A última bobina de filme super 8 que você filmou it’s a project that reflects my personal approach to film and textiles, in this case as containers of data, as storage of memory.

In the 80’s, my father, an electrical engineer, filmed our everyday lives in Latin America through a Super 8 camera. I grew up watching our images through a spotlight. My fascination centered on watching the tapes rolling in the spools and the turning of the handle to rewind them, unweaving the time to start again…

In 1990 my father wanted to return from Brazil to Chile, his homeland. He never returned to film again and the last footage he made remained tucked away in a box, having never been revealed, until the year 2014.

A última bobina de filme super 8 que você filmou is a project which began following the thread of my memory, with a constant journey to find out what souvenirs and time, were stored in this last roll of film. A bobine that had to wait more than 25 years, had to wait until the person who shot it no longer existed, had to travel thousands of miles, traveling to other continents and return again to the place of origin to be revealed.
