Participatory intervention in public space, 2005

Aquí me acuerdo que… (Here I remember that…) was a parallel intervention preceding the public deployment of Memoria Histórica de la Alameda. On the night of 1 July 2005, participants covered sections of Avenida Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins—commonly known as La Alameda—with posters bearing the unfinished phrase “Aquí me acuerdo que…” (“Here I remember that…”).

Encountered unexpectedly in the street, the phrase invited passers-by to recall and inscribe fragments of memory associated with particular places in the city. Its open formulation connected the act of remembering to an immediate spatial situation: memory began with “here” but remained available to multiple experiences and narratives.

Like Memoria Histórica de la Alameda, the intervention encouraged citizens to leave tangible traces of their own recollections in public space. Through these individual inscriptions, the posters gradually transformed the avenue into a collective, fragmentary narrative—one written across the city rather than contained within a conventional archive.
